Obama and European leaders consider referendum illegal in Crimea

U.s. President Barack Obama was among the first international leaders not to recognise the referendum that pits the Crimea in possession of Russia.

Obama said that Vladimir Putin has to be prepared to suffer sanctions by the United States, if persists in attitude towards Ukraine.

The reaction of the European Union should also make you wait, with the meeting of Foreign Ministers from 28 Member States scheduled for this Monday. On the agenda will be possible sanctions on Russia.

Both the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, as the permanent President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, consider the referendum illegal.
