Putin: "the Crimea has always been part of Russia"

Vladimir Putin today signed a bilateral agreement with the leaders of Crimea and Sevastopol with a view to the integration of territories in the Russian Federation.

In a speech before Parliament, the Russian President said that "the Crimea has always been and will be" part of Russia, in advance, that "in the Crimea are the graves of Russian soldiers" and that "the city of Sevastopol is the homeland of the Black Sea fleet."

The signing of the agreement occurs two days after the controversial referendum on Crimea where 97 percent of the voters voted in favour of integration into Russia.
