St Patrick's day: Controversy in New York

"It is clearly a homophobe and the city shouldn't participate in something that is homophobic. When the police parade in uniform, it's as if the city were to give the seal of approval, "said Eustacia Smith of Irish Queers.

"They can parade around, nobody prevents, but not together. That walking down representing the respective counties. What they want is to draw attention on them and here is not the place for it, "said one spectator.

"I think the decision really, really bad. I'm surprised, "said a tourist from Manchester.

Challenges to the exclusion of homosexual communities in celebration of St Patrick's day happened also in other cities in the United States, particularly in Boston, where the Mayor also refused to participate.
