Crimea approves Constitution

In Crimea, the State Council approved the establishment of the Russian Republic of Crimea.

The document was voted by 87 lawmakers who approved the fundamental articles 95 during an extraordinary session of the self-proclaimed Parliament this Friday.

The document defines the Crimea as a Democratic Republic within the Russian Federation.

The main chapters of the document are identical to articles of Russian Constitution.

According to the constitutional text, the head of State is elected by the Council of State for five-year periods and cannot serve more than two terms.
