NATO strengthens partnerships with Ukraine and Baltics

NATO will suspend civil and military cooperation with Russia and strengthen partnerships with the Ukraine and Eastern European partners on behalf of collective defense. This is the response of the Atlantic Alliance to the annexation by Moscow, the Ukrainian Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

The Baltic States breathe of relief, as Lithuania where held air exercises. The Defense Minister of Lithuania, Juozas Olekas, said: "we see that the NATO partners are fulfilling the promises, they're with us even when there is no aggression but a scalar. Need to increase interaction and is, therefore, that these exercises are being made ".

The heads of diplomacy of NATO member countries, meeting Tuesday in Brussels, reiterated that Russia violated the international law and betrayed the confidence of NATO. Hours earlier, the Alliance's Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, said it noted the withdrawal of the Russian troops stationed on the border with Ukraine, belying what had been advanced by the Russian President to the German Chancellor. This concentration of thousands of soldiers spurred fears of an invasion of the eastern regions of Ukraine russófonas.
