NATO suspends operations with Russia

NATO has decided to suspend its civil and military cooperation with Russia, while maintaining the political dialogue aimed at achieving a solution to the Ukrainian crisis.

The Foreign Ministers of the 28 Member States of the Organization North Atlantic Treaty formalized publicly the decision taken at the level of ambassadors to 05 March last.

Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the NATO Secretary-General: "Aggression of Russia against the Ukraine is the most serious threat to European security in a generation and that challenges our vision of a United Europe, free and at peace."

Not have been specified which will be suspended cooperation programmes, but it was clear that those who relate to Afghanistan and the fight against drug trafficking will not be affected.

John Kerry declared: "we reject any notion that there is any legality in Russia's efforts to attach Crimea. We defy intimidation tactics, especially the deployment of military force around the borders of Ukraine. "

The Russia had already decided, for several months, suspend the negotiations with NATO on the missile shield project that the Atlantic Alliance is currently installing in several countries.
