High participation in the Ukrainian presidential

The Ukrainian elections showed a high participation across the country, with the exception of Eastern Ukraine, where fear of violence complicates the vote. According to the observers of the Organization for security and cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the ballot has been carefully organized.

About 36 million voters are called to the polls Sunday, in Ukraine. These elections represent for many Ukrainians the culmination of months of protests against a corrupt government and the chance to fulfill the reforms demanded by protesters of Maidan.

The favorite of this scrutiny is Petro Poroshenko, whom the latest polls gave more than 30 percent of the voting preferences. The former Prime Minister Timoshenko in these surveys was Iulia Secondly, with only six percent.

After the events of the last few months, people realize that in these elections, the fate of the country is played.

A young woman stressed that the country will now be governed by Ukrainians:

"These elections will help prevent the neighboring nation to interfere in our affairs â€" Let's have a legitimate President and let's build our future in Ukraine with our bare hands"

A hope shared by another inhabitant of Kyiv: "we need a strong ruler and able to make decisions, a man whose actions can help, fíisica and morally, to resolve the situation in regions in conflict"
