Bulgaria: bad weather makes at least 14 dead

The balance sheet is still tentative, but at least 14 people died victims of Bulgaria ba violent storm that hit, especially the coastal areas of the country. There are still several missing. The port city of Varna was the most affected: there is for registration of 11 dead, among them two children. Heavy rainfall from Thursday night caused flooding and several landslides that in addition to the fatalities, left a huge trail of destruction.

A city dweller stresses that "the floods caused a lot of damage, we now find it difficult to recover. I live in Varna since 1971 and I've never seen anything like it. It is difficult to understand where it came from so much water, it was a terrifying experience ".

The area receives many tourists, especiall y Germans, Russians and British. 1500 had to be removed from the seaside resort of Albena.

The three other victims lost their lives in Dobritch, North of Varna.

Also in the center of the country, in the region of Veliko Tarnovo, there were several floods and landslides caused by bad weather.

However the Bulgarian Government decreed a State of calamity in these regions. The Bulgarian Parliament has respected this Friday a minute of silence and was decreed Monday a day of national mourning in memory of the victims.
