Homenagem a Maya Angelou

Was "one of the strongest voices in the world," said former President Bill Clinton, at the memorial service in the chapel of Wake Forest University in North Carolina, where Maya Angelou was a teacher.

Oprah Winfrey, television presenter, said Angelou was his "spiritual mother".

"She touched me, she played you all, she touched people around the world," said Michelle Obama.

Poet, writer, filmmaker and actress, she was also a prominent figure in the civil rights struggle in the United States with Martin Luther King.

Awarded with several prizes, wrote the best-selling "I know why the caged bird sings", published in 1970, where he told his childhood during a period marked by discrimination against Blacks.
