Reuven Rivlin was elected President of israel

The elect is Reuven Rivlin, a Likud MP, the party of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. But a second round was accurate, since none of the five candidates achieved a majority in the first ballot.

Rivlin's rival was the centrist Deputy, Méir Sheetrit.

Reuven Rivlin is part of the rightmost wing of Likud, which, according to some Israeli press, does anticipate increased difficulties in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

The new President of Israel never hid its hostility to the creation of a Palestinian State. The newspaper Haaretz writes even if it could "use the Presidency to advance the colonisation in the West Bank".
