170 people reported missing

According to the coast guard, more than 200 illegal immigrants were aboard the boat when the accident occurred, this Friday, about 60 miles from Tripoli.

The coast guard allowed intervention to rescue 16 people alive. The searches are, however, being hampered by lack of resources.

Among the victims there are citizens of Somalia and Eritrea.

The immigrants had in common the desire to reach Europe.
