Nelson Mandela died a year ago

The South Africa points out today, the first anniversary of the death of Nelson Mandela.

From North to South of the country, thousands of people pay tribute to the man, a symbol of the struggle against apartheid and national reconciliation.

The ideals of the first Black President of South Africa, who died at the age of 95 years a victim of respiratory disease, are more alive than ever.

"Today we pay tribute to Mandela because as he said when completed 90 years it behooves each of us to contribute to end the divisions that exist in the country," says Grace Machel, widow of Mandela.

The main ceremony of tribute to the man who became known as the "father" founder of democracy is scheduled in the seat of Government in Pretoria.

A ceremony that will not count with the presence of the current head of State of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, who is on an official visit to China.
