USA: Obama nominates Ashton Carter for Secretary of Defense

The nomination still has to be confirmed by the Senate as of January will be dominated by Republicans.

"With more than 30 years curriculum of public service, as an Advisor, as academic, Ash is considered one of the best leaders in security in the nation," said Obama.

Behind the Republican Chuck Hagel that leaves the Obama administration after 2 years in Office and that it would have some disagreement with presidential advisers.

The new Secretary of Defense, the equivalent of Minister of Defense, has some Republican support and not expect setbacks for Barack Obama in the Senate.

With 60 years, Ashton was the number two at the Pentagon between 2011 and 2013.
