Greece's new President assumes office on March 12

Supported by the coalition led by radical left Syriza and by members of the main opposition formation, the new democracy-party to which it belongs-, Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos obtained easily victory lap, winning 233 votes in the Assembly of 300 seats, well above the required 180.

With an Office which is essentially honorary, but one that has an important unifying role in a country plunged into a deep crisis, Pavlopoulos represents a consensus choice of Prime Minister and leader of the radical left, Alexis Tsipras.
