The Iraqi jihadist al Rishawi Sayida, whose release was demanded for days by the Islamic State, in Exchange for a Jordanian pilot, was executed this Wednesday, along with other prisoners accused of terrorism.

This execution comes after King Abdullah II of Jordan, have interrupted the visit to the United States when he learned that the Jordanian pilot detained by the self-proclaimed Islamic State had been killed.

In a televised speech the monarch paid tribute to the pilot Maaz al-Kassasbeh and appealed to the Union of all Jordanians.

"It is the duty of all of us, sons and daughters of the nation, unite and show the determination of the Jordanian people in the face of adversity of this crisis," said the King.

The Jordanian Air Force pilot, Maaz al-Kassasbeh, was detained in December by extremists from Syria, after the F-16 that was crashed, while participating in coalition attacks against the Islamic State.

In a video released Tuesday, the extremists claim to have burned alive the pilot on January 3, which provoked the ire of Jordanians.
