Egypt: Mohamed Morsi sentenced to death

In Egypt, the former President Mohamed Morsi, ousted by the army in 2013, was sentenced to death for espionage, treason, prison break and violence during the revolt of 2011.

In addition to Morsi also were sentenced to capital punishment more than 100 members of the Muslim Brotherhood-including prominent leaders like Mohamed Badie and Mohamed el-Beltagy.

All defendants should be the target of a non-binding opinion of the mufti of Egypt, the religious authority in the country, before the final decision, the June 2.

To avoid the penalty, Morsi can still appeal the decision or to obtain the grace of presidential general Abdel Fattah al-Sissy, now in charge of the State.

A few hours after public disclosure of the verdict, three judgements were gunned down in the town of Al Arish, North Sinai â€" a region of frequent bombings and jihadi groups, supporters of Mohamed Morsi.
