Iraq: "Islamic State" raise flag in Ramadi

Guerrillas of the self-proclaimed Islamic State then raised the black pennant of the Group at the Government Headquarters in Ramadi, capital of Anbar province.

The insurgents shot down the Iraqi flag after the attacks with six booby-trapped cars at night.

The fighting continued Friday in several areas of Ramadi. A police officer ensured that the authorities of Iraq will "continue to fight the Islamic State as long as it takes for the kick (in the region) of Anbar".

During the afternoon, Government forces continued to control the military command center located in the western part of Ramadi, a city 60 miles west of Baghdad.

The fall of Ramadi would be a heavy blow to the rule of Haider al-Abadi, about a month and a half after having conquered the strategic town of Tikrit, which paved the way for the launch of an offensive to reconquer Mosul, in northern Iraq.
