More than 400 dead in Karachi heat

Since last weekend, temperatures reached 45 degrees Celsius in Karachi, the largest city in the country, with about of 20 million inhabitants.

Cuts in the supply of electricity, came further complicate the situation.

An official of the Edhi Fondação told Reuters that a morgue run by the Organization has hosted over 400 fatalities.

One of the major public hospitals of Karachi announced the death of more than 200 patients as a result of dehydration and hyperthermia.

The authorities organized makeshift medical centers on the city streets, where is distributed water and rehydration salts.

The National Weather Service announced monsoon rains for this Tuesday.
