United Kingdom: head of Rwandan intelligence released on bail

Karake was represented by lawyer Mark Summers and lawyer Cherie Blair, wife of former Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The general, who was released on a bail of 1.4 million euros and cannot leave the United Kingdom, has to report to police daily.

"I am very pleased with justice done. I am satisfied because this is probably the beginning of a long journey to denounce these accusations because Spanish are illegal, illicit and illegitimate, "said Rwandan justice Minister, Busingye Johnston.

The judgment on extradition to Spain was scheduled for 29 and 30 October. The Rwandan general is charged with the murder of nine Spanish between 1994 and 2000 and of participating in the genocide of more than four million people during the war between hutus and tutsis.
