South Korea responds with missiles to attack from Pyongyang on the border

Seoul responded with dozens of projectiles at a suspected rocket attack made by Pyongyang, which gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the southern neighbours turn off the speakers that emit messages against the North.

"Our forces have increased immediately the alert status to the highest level and are monitoring closely the movements of North Korean forces. We are prepared, from the military point of view, to respond with force in case of further provocations from North Korea, "the South Korean Government announced.

The climate of instability between the two Koreas has intensified since August 4. On that day, two South Korean soldiers were seriously injured as a result of the explosion of three anti-personnel mines at border with North Korea.
