India: Floods cause more than 300 dead

The region has suffered from the heavy precipitation last month, which forced the Government to decree a State of emergency.

According to the authorities, at least 44 people have died in the past 48 hours in the city of Chennai, in State of Tamil Nadu.

Between four and 5000 soldiers of the armed forces and emergency services were deployed for rescue operations in the region.

The authorities reported that nearly two million people, already, by more than 24 1000 medical camps set up to assist the population.

For more than a month that the Tamil Nadu State is under intense rains. Between October and December it rained already 48% of the total volume of annual precipitation, planned for the region.
