Syria: Government forces take up areas in Deraa province

In Syria, Government forces launched an offensive against rebel positions in Deraa province, South of the capital, Damascus.

Images obtained in social networks show alleged clashes between Syrian rebels and Government troops.

Syrian forces relied on the support of a Russian campaign of air strikes.

Most of the fighting would have taken place in the town of Sheikh Miskin, an area of strategic importance to the Government.

Second advanced information by the rebels, the Russian campaign of air strikes enabled the army make advances in the field and win back several areas that were previously under the control of militant groups.

The Russia hasn't confirmed the air offensive.

Rebel leaders claim that this was the greatest Russian offensive in the South of the country since the country became involved in the conflict at the end of September in support of President Bashar al-Assad.
