Turkey's Kurds call for self-determination

The appeal was made on Sunday at a meeting of the Popular Democratic Congress, a body composed of Kurdish organizations and non-governmental organizations that met in the southeast of the country.

The meeting coincided with a Turkish Government security operation in which the Government claims to have killed more than 200 Kurdish militants.

"To form a democratic and autonomous region, including one or several neighbouring provinces, it is necessary to take into account the line cultural affinities, geographical and economic," said Hatip Dicle, leader of the Popular Democratic Congress.

The meeting ended with a call for the formation of Kurdish autonomous regions.

There were explosions in the town of Bezabde, a locality in southeastern Sirnak province where for 13 days is in force the curfew.
