Refugee crisis: EU Interior Ministers meeting in Brussels

The refugee crisis is debated on Thursday in Brussels. The Interior and Justice Ministers of the European Union meet to discuss freedom of movement within the Schengen area and the creation of a European coast guard. The proposal has been submitted by the European Commission in December and the aim is to control migratory flows, identify weaknesses and respond in situations of risk.

On the sidelines of this Council of Ministers, will be discussed the situation in the Balkans. However, the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, has announced that it will take place in Brussels on 7 March a special meeting between the leaders of the European Union (EU) and Turkey, in the context of the crisis of migrants.

In the past few hours, NATO me mbers agreed on the operational plan that will be implemented in the Aegean Sea. It is recalled that earlier this month it was decided that would be put in motion an unprecedented mission: NATO ships were sent to the Aegean Sea to curb human trafficking between Turkey and Greece, in the route that more refugees and immigrants are to bring to Europe.
