Assad defeat jihadists in Palmira, Iraqi army advances on Mosul

Palmira is again in the hands of the Syrian regime. Supported by Russian Aviation and by the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah militia, the army of Bashar al-Assad expelled the jihadists of the self-proclaimed Islamic State, which since may 2015 occupied the city.

The recovery of Palmyra is the greatest victory of the forces loyal to Assad against extremists of Daesh since the start of the Russian military intervention in September.

According to one Syrian official, was released the Castle Qalaat Fakhr ad-Din al-Maani ':

"This victory happened thanks to the determination of the soldiers in combat. We liberated the castle of Palmyra and juhadistas militias are in re treat toward the Raqqa and Deir al-Zor ".

However, Iraqi troops advance to reclaim Mosul, capital of Nineveh, in the North of the country, which is in the hands of Daesh since June 2014.

The Iraqi army has the support of Kurdish peshmergas fighters of the autonomous region of Kurdistan, the coalition of Shiite militias and American aviation.

Kurdish peshmergas troops freed a few days ago, 52 women and children that the jihadists of the self-proclaimed Islamic State remained trapped.
