Slovenia closes borders to halt migrants

Since midnight, less 1 hour in continental Portugal, there are more barriers in Europe. Slovenia closed the borders and will only make exceptions for situations of "humanitarian emergency".

From now on, only the "foreigners who meet the requirements to enter the country" are accepted in Slovenian territory.

Slovenia, Macedonia, Serbia and Croatia are the so-called Balkan route, used in particular by migrants from the Middle East who want to get to Austria, Germany and other rich countries of the European Union.

"The Balkan route is closing and this means that all countries of this route, including Greece and in collaboration with Turkey, will send back all irregular migrants," said the Slovenian Prime Minister, Miro Cerar.

With the noose tighter and more and more obstacles ahead, more than 10000 desperate migrants in the rain and the cold, in miserable conditions near the border of Greece with the (former Yugoslav Republic of) Macedonia.
