About 1500 of migrants, refugees and activists demonstrated in Athens against the EU-Turkey

About 1500 of migrants and refugees, along with human rights activists demonstrated Wednesday near the Greek Parliament and the building of the European Commission representation in Athens.

The demonstrators called for the suspension of EU-Turkey agreement, in force since 20 March, whose number one point says that all the "irregular" migrants arriving to Greece will be forced to return to Turkey

"We don't want anything from the Greek Government. They are struggling, the Greek economy is in trouble. We ask the world, the big countries to open their borders. We are not here for money, we're here for a safe place. We want a place with peace on this planet, "said a refugee present at the demonstration.

It is estimated that 51 1000 migrants and refugees, among them Syrians, Afghans, Iraqis and others fleeing from conflict in the Middle East, Africa and Asia, are currently stranded in Greece.

More than 15000 live in refugee camps in Athens and in makeshift facilities in the port of Piraeus.
