There are fewer migrants dying in the Mediterranean

The number of migrants trying to reach Europe has reached a new level Tuesday. In just 24 hours, have been rescued in the Mediterranean 2745 people. This in various operations of European coastguards and Libya. The figures were given by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The most important operation was the rescue of about 400 people by an Irish Navy vessel near Sicily. The migrants, who came from Libya, were then taken to the port of Catania.

"It is possible â€" I want to stress that I mean just possible-that the period of highest mortality that began in 2013, has already finished. Maybe this summer will be more secure than we thought a few weeks ago, "said Joel Millman, spokesman for the IOM.
