Belgium: three charged following anti-terrorist operation

Three of the twelve individuals arrested in a vast anti-terrorist operation in Belgium were formally charged Saturday. Identified as Samir c., Moustapha b. and Jawad b., aged between 27 and 40 years, were indicted for "attempting to murder in a terrorist context" and "participation in activities of a terrorist group". The remaining nine detainees were released after questioning.

After an emergency meeting of the National Security Council, following the police operation on the night of Friday to Saturday, the Belgian Prime Minister announced to maintain the alert level 3, on a scale of 4.

According to Belgian media, the potential targets of the alleged terrorists were the so-called "fan zones", places in Brussels where are installed large scre ens to allow supporters to follow the Euro 2016 games, particularly on the occasion of the head-to-head this Saturday between the selection of Belgium and Ireland.
