Israel: Netanyahu promises to punish those responsible for shooting in Tel Aviv

Four people lost their lives and six others were wounded in a shootout in a busy neighborhood of shops and restaurants in Tel Aviv, near the Ministry of defence of Israel.

According to the head of the Israeli police, the attack was perpetrated by two Palestinians from Hebron, in the West Bank.

One of the attackers was arrested and the other was shot and transported in serious condition to a hospital.

At the scene of the attack, the Israeli Prime Minister stated that "a major tragedy was averted due to the actions of citizens and security forces". Benjamin Netanyahu added that "the necessary steps will be taken to punish the attackers and defend those who need to be protected".

Historical allies of Israel, the United States condemned the attack in the neighborhood of Sarona, which rated a "terrorist". The French President, François Hollande, as well as the UN Special Envoy to the Middle East, Nickolay Mladenov, also condemned the attack.

Tel Aviv had staged a similar action in day 1 of January, when an Arab Israeli opened fire in an area of terraces, causing three deaths and multiple injuries, eventually being shot down after a week on the run.
