Macau and Hong Kong mark Tiananmen massacre

During the demonstration, 10 people were detained by police after they shouted slogans to defend the independence of the former British colony.

In Macao, hundreds of people attended a vigil in honor of the victims.

Hong Kong and Macau are the only two territories in China where it is allowed to publicly mark the crackdown that took place on June 4, 1989 at Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

Almost th ree decades, the Communist regime continues to prohibit any mention of the subject in the media and on the Internet. Also in schools the subject is taboo.

Second Chinese organizations defending human rights, six activists, including the poet Liang Taiping, are trapped since Thursday for participating in a private ceremony of tribute to the victims.

The June 4, 1989 at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, the Chinese army advanced with tanks to disperse peaceful protests. There is no official number of dead. Some estimates point to thousands of deaths.
