Rohani: "Israel has to sign nuclear non-proliferation Treaty"

The President of Iran has returned to the load on the UN General Assembly in New York. After having said that Iran will never have nuclear weapons and have appealed for peace, Hassan Rohani has asked Israel to join the international community and sign the nuclear non-proliferation Treaty.

"Israel, the only country that is not a member of the nuclear non-proliferation Treaty in this region, must then adhere without delay. Thus, all nuclear activities will be under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, "he said.

Israel never officially declared possession of nuclear weapons but is considered by many as non-signatory holder.

The Hebrew nation has carried out several tests in a desert in the country. The first public disclosure about the nuclear military capabilities emerged in "The Sunday Times" in 1986, in a quote from a former employee of the nuclear power plant of Dimona. For having made the revelations, the official, called Mordechai Vanunu was sentenced to 18 years in prison for treason and espionage.
