The "right man for the job," according to Obama, will take over the reins of the Department created by the Bush administration after the attacks of 11 September, which should be the key piece of the immigration policy reform advocated by Obama.

"When I got the call I couldn't refuse the offer. I'm a New Yorker and was in Manhattan on September 11 which is also the day of my birthday, when that sunny day was overshadowed by the biggest-ever terrorist attack against our homeland, "said Johnson during a press conference at the White House.

Former air force adviser during the Clinton administration and Adviser to the Secretary of Defense during the first term of Obama, the reputed lawyer was responsible for the end of the ban on homosexuals in the military.

The choice of Obama must now be confirmed by the Senate.
