Catalonia is preparing to ban circus animals

A majority of members of the regional Assembly presented a draft law to that effect. Denounce "violent amestramentos methods" and a life of "isolation, punishment, fear and captivity" of animals.

The Bill, presented by 5 of the 7 political groups, a total of 107 of 135 members of the regional Parliament, should begin to be debated soon.

"Catalonia is, once again, at the forefront of respect for animals", welcomes Carlos Lopez, of the Association Releases.

Different opinion have the professionals of the circus arts. For Carlos, the circus Director Alvin Alvin, "would be a discrimination that citizens may have little dogs and cats at home and we, at the circus."

In practice, the proposal aims to include the prohibition of circus animals in the current law, under which the Parliament of Catalonia sets the animals as "living beings, endowed with physical and psychic sensitivity".

The law dates from 2008. In 2012, the ban on bullfighting was integrated in this law. Ban which came into force in Catalonia, in 2012.
