Israel: Netanyahu cancels expansion of settlements in the West Bank

In a statement, Netanyahu said that such action would result in an unnecessary confrontation with the international community, when Israel strives to persuade this community to get a better deal with Iran.

The planning design of new settlements in the West Bank had caused "unrest" in Washington and vivid criticism from Palestinians, who were willing to put an end to the peace talks, if the decision was not overturned.

The Israeli Housing Minister, Uri Ariel, that belongs to an extreme-right party close to the settler lobby, had recently announced a project for the construction of 24 thousand homes in the West Bank.
