Ukrainian opposition on "up in arms"

Supporters of Ukraine's accession to the European Union initiated by dawn the third straight day of protests in Kiev against the Government's refusal to sign an association agreement with Brussels.

The riot police has been deployed in strength to the vicinity of the seat of Government to contain the outrage of hundreds of people who claim to be betrayed by the Executive. The deal was rejected last week, after months of negotiations, a compromise that was not to the liking of Russia, traditional ally of the former Soviet Republic.

"It is impossible to work in a civilized way with them. We were waiting for us not to lie and that's why we're here, they need to be fair, "said one protester.

This new manifestation happens one day after one of the biggest protests since the orange revolution in 2004.

The opposition claims that the Government ceded to pressure from Moscow, which had threatened with commercial consequences if the agreement with the European Union forward.

Brussels already had set as a condition for the release of the former Prime Minister Julia Timoshenko to receive medical treatment, a measure rejected by the Ukrainian Parliament.
