Central African Republic on the verge of humanitarian crisis

The Central African Republic is on the verge of a humanitarian crisis at a time when the strength of French and African military continues efforts to stem the violence between Muslim and Christian militias.

This Thursday, the multinational peacekeeping force made several shots into the air to disperse a crowd that was determined to attack a group of Muslims who took refuge in the Church of Santiago, in the capital, Bangui.

Headquarters of the French forces in the territory, the rudimentary Bangui airport is one of the safest spots in the capital and is transformed into a genuine refugee camp which houses around 30 thousand people who need urgent help, according to the only humanitarian organization present at the scene.

The Coordinator of the Doctors without borders says the situation is "chaotic" and expressed the hope that other organizations begin to work soon because there are "people everywhere, no bathrooms, no water". Tessy Fautsch took the opportunity to reiterate the request of humanitarian aid to the Central African Republic, an appeal to the European Commission has already replied. Brussels is sending 37 tons of medical aid on Saturday.

Since Séléka rebels seized power in March, the conflict has already done about 500 thousand refugees.
