Belgium debate give children freedom to ask for death

The Justice Committee rejected the requests for hearing from more experts and the proposal followed to plenary.

If approved, the Belgium becomes the first country in the world where any child may require medically assisted death if terminally ill, victim of an unbearable suffering.

The proposal was approved in the Senate before Christmas. The House of representatives could vote on a final text before the end of the legislature in May.

In the neighboring Netherlands, euthanasia was despenalizada, but only for minors over 12 years.

Parents will have to authorize the death of children but there are many experts who question the ability of children to decide about his own death.
