Tense calm returns to RCA

The former rebel leader Michel Djotodia resigned following a Summit in which he participated in Chad.

The announcement was made by the economic community of central African States.

Michel Djotodia took power in March last year when thousands of fighters Seleka came north and invaded the capital.

There followed months of abuses and atrocities by the beginning of December when a Christian militia composed of supporters of the deposed President, Francois Bozize, attacked the capital.

About a million people have been displaced since the start of the violence.

The France sent 1600 men to the ground. An African peacekeeping force is also on site.
