North Korea: testimonies of horror

The country closed its doors to the international community. Without access to North Korean territory, only the testimonies of those who survived or defected and left the country, allow you to unravel the skein of atrocities. These survivors are heard on a UN Commission led by Michael Kirby.

Amnesty International presents us with accounts of former prisoners, as Kim Young Soon, who spent 9 years stuck:

"We work from sunrise to sunset. There is a given number of hours. We got up at 3: 30 in the morning to work at 4: 30 and worked until dark.

The system of guilt by Association applies to the whole family. I am guilty but the other six members are forced to go with me to prison without knowing the charges ".

For women the situation may deteriorate, as explained by Jihyum Park:

"When a woman comes to Onsung are made blood tests to see if you are pregnant or have sexually transmitted diseases. They force them to abort. Pregnant women are sent to labor camps, to carry weights up and down hill, so lose the children ".

Joo-Il Kim is a former military who defected:

"What little food is the biggest problem in the prisons of North Korea. Civil and military authorities do not have enough food. The big problem is hunger ".

But think of the part without taking into consideration the whole is naive. For the head of Amnesty International, Roseann Rife, China has an important role to play:

"We need that China is not an obstacle to any action of the Security Council and to assume the responsibility to protect the human rights of North Koreans, which does not return those who cross the border to China".

In a show in Seoul, are drawings that depict shocking torture methods in these prisons.

North Korea closes on its dome and denies all accusations claiming that the document, now published by the United Nations, is part of a political plot.
