Brazil: safety is guaranteed, say authorities

Less than two weeks before the start of the World Cup, security operations in Rio de Janeiro rely on the collaboration of more than twenty thousand additional security staff.

"In addition to the usual tasks that fit to the Ministry of defence, as the control of strategic and airspace structures, they will help police forces still reinforcing the presence on the streets," said Anderson Bichara, Chief of the central command of operations.

The operation is being described as the largest ever carried out in Rio de Janeiro and in the State.

Despite the official discourse, the streets lives an environment of agitation.

Since last year that all Brazil have taken place numerous manifestations of repudiation to the World Cup.

This Friday, in Rio de Janeiro, hundreds of people marched towards the Town Hall of the city.

Many criticize the spending of public money with the event.

The beginning of Ii is slated for June 12.
