Former broker of the Société Génerale jailed for financial fraud

Jérôme Kerviel returned this Sunday to France, crossing the border of the country with Italy on foot. On arrival in the town of Menton, in French territory, was arrested at midnight, the deadline that Kerviel had to come forward.

Followed closely by a group of supporters, was later transferred to a police station in the border town, before being transferred to the city of Nice, on the morning of Monday.

In statements to reporters Kerviel has distanced itself from accusations of dishonesty: "I've never been on the run. Never wanted to escape. I've always wanted to take responsibility. "

In the struggle for the defense of innocence, Kerviel sailed to Italy to meet with the Pope.

Appealed to President Francois Hollande to intervene, but in response the Cabinet Hollande said he would consider a specific request of forgiveness according to the usual procedure.

Between clapping and whistles, the old broker submits that Société Générale has seen with good eyes the maneuvers of speculation as were profitable.

Jérôme Kerviel is, among other things, accused of conducting financial speculations in risky markets without knowledge of superiors.

An internal Societe Generale report found that managers failed to monitor 74 different alarms about Kerviel's activities.
