Burma frees child soldiers

Since the inauguration of the new Government, which succeeded the military junta, have already been freed more than 470 children.

"The recruitment of children and young people below the legal age happens especially in the regular army, but also in rebel armies. These also have the obligation to do what they did, "says Bertrand Bainvel, UNICEF Chief in Brimânia.

The military junta in Burma during 49 years was condemned, internationally, for using child soldiers. The country lives in a nearly permanent civil war since independence. Since the arrival of the new Government were signed cease-fires with most of the rebel groups.
