The Californian Rock receives exposure @ Large Al Weiwei on Alcatraz
Today, the best known prison, the United States, receives artworks of Ai Weiwei, artist and activist, critic of the Chinese regime in Beijing:"He thought this was the appropriate place to expose your work, not just because of his relationship with the arrests but also with the protests", explains the curator of the exhibition, Cheryl Haines.His works and installations intended to raise pressing issues about human rights and freedom of expression. The prison of Alcatraz is the ideal place to do it:"Tourists know a period of this federal penitentiary, when Al Capone and other gangsters were here. Ai Weiwei opens a deeper chapter. Shows the meaning of imprisonment, of being detained, the implementation of human rights and which means the political imprisonment ", said Greg Moore, President of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. The artist, who has been under house arrest on charges of tax evasion, was prevented, by the Chinese authorities, to leave the country:"China has laws, the Department that handles these issues of inbound and outbound Chinese citizens of its borders, it does so in accordance with the regulations on immigration," said the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.The exhibition will feature, on the island of Alcatraz, located in San Francisco, California, until April 26, 2015.
