Mozambique will vote in normal environment

More than 10 million Mozambicans are registered to participate in the Electoral Act which will be a new President, Parliament and provincial assemblies.

The ruling party, FRELIMO, RENAMO faces competition, historical rival, led by Afonso Dhlakama, and the third political force, the democratic movement of Mozambique, MDM, represented by Daviz Simango.

The outgoing President, Armando Guebuza, has already served two terms and FRELIMO is now represented by the Minister of defence, Philip Nyusi.

Afonso Dhlakama and Daviz Simango dispute the political and economic hegemony of FRELIMO complaining about a more equitable and inclusive sharing of natural resources in the country.

In September, Guebuza and Dhlakama signed a new peace accord that put an end to two years of sporadic fighting between Government forces and former rebels.
