Burkina Faso: Michel Members appointed interim President

The name of the former Foreign Minister and former Ambassador to the country at the UN was announced at dawn after a night of negotiations between representatives of the army, the opposition, civil society and religious and traditional leaders.

During the signing of the "Charter of transition", this Sunday, Ablassé Ouedraogo, key figure of the opposition, explained that "the President of the Transitional Government should defend the Constitution and its mandate will be completed with the end of the transitional period after the entry into Office of the new Chief of State, out of the elections".

Responding to the demand of the African Union for a quick return to civilian power, the army had announced on Saturday the re-establishment of the Constitution suspended after the fall of President Blaise Compaoré.
