Fortieth day of protest in Hong Kong

Hundreds of masked demonstrators and dozens of policemen clashed at dawn Thursday in Hong Kong, in one of three areas occupied by pro-democracy activists.

The protests, which last for more than a month as part of a campaign of civil disobedience, constitute one of the largest social crises faced by Beijing.

The disturbances occurred around 2 pm local time in the District of Mong Kok in Kowloon peninsula.

Several demonstrators were injured and some were arrested.

Also participated in the movement's sympathizers disorders blue lace, who oppose the occupation of streets by pro-democracy protesters.

The Hong Kong Federation of Students, one of the main groups involved in the protests, is still analyzing sends representatives to Beijing next week for a meeting with leaders of the central Government.

The visit could coincide with the Apec Summit, which takes place in the Chinese capital.
