November 11, 1918 Armistice

The great war, as it was known at the time, was a direct consequence of the assassination in Sarajevo of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the austro-Hungarian throne. The trigger that led the Empire to declare war on the Kingdom of Serbia and triggering a gear of alliances. In fact, among the causes of the war include the imperialist foreign policies of the great powers of Europe.

The parties organized themselves in two opposing alliances: the allies, based on the triple Entente between United Kingdom, France and the Russian Empire and the central powers, originally triple alliance between Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy; in a reorganization of the Alliances Italy put himself on the side of the Allies. The Armistice of November 11, 1918 marked forever the surrender of Germany and the end of World War I. The location of the meeting, which lasted three days, remained secret: only a few photographs and drawings attest to the date. The Armistice officially came into force at 11:0-the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918.
