Chechnya: rebels attack in Grozny

Second advanced the National Antiterrorism Committee, a group of rebels attacked a transit station and then took control of the "Press House", building where local media are installed.

According to the same sources, the rebels continued overnight inside the building, surrounded by police and security forces.

Ramzan Kadírov, President of Chechnya, advanced that there are still some rebels entrenched in a school.

Following a failed revolt against the Russian Government between 1994 and 1996, the Chechen separatist movement became increasingly radical, evolving into a violent Islamic insurgency in early 2000.
