Protest in Athens against "blackmail" of the ECB

Thousands of Greeks gathered in Syntagma Square, opposite the Parliament of Athens, in a demonstration of support for the Government and against the ranking of "blackmail" exerted by the European Central Bank.

The protest â€" which, according to police, gathered 5,000 people â€" was convened through social networks, after the ECB had decided to restrict the funding mechanisms of Greek banks.

One protester says that "the Government must defend the mandate of the people expressed in the elections, which is against the austerity and development for Europe".

Another says that the Greeks "have no ability to reply to austerity, to the desired programs by German hegemony. And want what is humanly possible; sit at a table and talk about the issue of Greece ".

The square in front of the Parliament was the scene recurs, in recent years, huge demonstrations against austerity.
